Registered investment advisors are distinct from brokers: RIAs sell advice, while brokers sell investments and other products. Earning commissions from product sales opens the door to potential conflicts of interest. Independent RIAs are unaffiliated with larger firms and so do not have a financial agenda beyond their own success and that of their clients.

As a fee-only firm registered with the State of Florida, we are held to the highest standard, the fiduciary standard, instead of the lower suitability standard common to banks and brokerage firms. Upholding a fiduciary standard of care means we put our client’s best interests first. We don’t invest in proprietary investments or receive commissions that could otherwise create conflicts of interest. Fiduciaries are legally responsible for acting solely in your best interests. Most advisors are not fiduciaries; McCloskey & Associates fiduciary wealth management is among those that are.

Our first meeting is really an opportunity for us to get to know one another, and will take 45-60 minutes. We will discuss your current situation and gather as many numbers and facts as well can. We will spend time discussing your goals, in terms of needs, wants, and wishes, as well as begin to understand what aspects of your financial life concern you the most. If you would like to get started, at the end of the meeting we will sign a client services agreement and I will collect your deposit. If you are not ready, that’s OK! Take some time to reflect on the engagement. I will be here when you are ready.
